Just up, a new special collections gallery, Reflections.
These images were all taken on one glorious long weekend last September in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. My wife and I were meeting some family in Lake Louise, Alberta for a day of hiking and visiting. We decided to add on a few days to meander up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper.
Usually September in the mountains is a bit iffy; you can never trust the weather. Indeed, I can remember snow storms in mid-August in some parts of the mountains. But this year, we had fabulous weather. For three or four days, as we wound our way from Lake Louise to Jasper, the air was calm, the skies mainly clear, and the sun warm. It made for some wonderful reflections in the mountain lakes. Added to our pleasure was the larches, in full fall colours. Here is my version of the iconic Spirit Island image, one of the most photographed images in the Rockies. Of course, since the water levels have been dropping for many years, it has been a long time since it was really an island.
Some of these images are also included in the landscapes galleries, both Mountains & Mesas and Lakes & Rivers.
With this gallery, we have added a new feature: Google Maps. Just click on the map icon on the top left of each photo to see where in the world the photo was taken. This function will gradually be added to the other galleries as they are updated.
